Manchester United’s woes continued as they crushed out of the Champions League and from European competitions with a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. United needed to beat Bayern and hope the Copenhagen – Galatasaray game ends in a draw to stand a chance of finishing second in the group. All hopes were dashed, however, when Kingsley Coman struck the lone goal in the 70th minute. Erik Ten Hag’s men finished bottom of the group with only 4 points, suffering 4 defeats in what was their worst ever Champions League campaign in the club’s history.
Elsewhere Napoli sealed second spot in their group and qualified for the last 16 with a 2-0 win over Braga. A Braga own goal and a Victor Osimhen backheel was enough to send the defending Italian champions into the knockout stages, finishing runners up behind Real Madrid. The Spanish giants themselves sealed top spot with a 3-2 win over Union Berlin. The German side fought bravely to secure their status in the Champions League but a double from Joselu and a Dani Ceballos goal was enough to see Berlin crash out of Europe.
Arsenal sealed their last 16 slot despite a 1-1 draw with PSV. Lens defeated Sevilla 2-1 while Benfica cruised to a 3-1 win over RB Salzburg. Inter Milan settled for a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad while FC Copenhagen sealed their last 16 slot with a 1-0 win over Galatasaray to send the Turkish giants to the Europa League.
