Arsenal finally beat Manchester City on Sunday’s blockbuster match to end their 15 game losing streak against Guardiola’s men. Gabriel Martinelli scored the only goal in the 86th minute to condemn City to back to back losses for the first time since December 2018. The result sees Arsenal jump to 2nd place in the table, still unbeaten after eight matches. City drop to third on 18 points.
In other Sunday matches, which all ended in draws, Salah scored twice for Liverpool in a 2-2 draw with Brighton. It took him to 13th place in the all time highest goal scorers’ list with 144 goals, level with Man U legend Robin Van Persie. At the London Stadium, West Ham also played out a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. Alexander Isak scored twice for Newcastle but it was not enough to secure the three points. Pau Torres goal for Aston Villa helped his side snatch a point in an entertaining 1-all draw with Wolves. The home team had taken the lead through Hwang Hee Chan only for Villa to equalize two minutes later.
On Saturday, super-sub Scott Mctominay spared the blushes for Manchester United by scoring twice in added time to help the Red Devils beat Brentford 2-1. United had fallen behind in the first half through Mathias Jensen’s goal and looked set for a fifth loss of the season. But Mctominay came off the bench to score two goals in two minutes to seal all three points. In other results, Crystal Palace played out a barren draw with Nottingham Forest. Spurs beat Luton 1-0 to end the weekend top of the table with 20 points to remain the only unbeaten team, together with Arsenal.
Raheem Sterling starred for Chelsea as they thumped Burnley 4-1, while Everton also enjoyed a convincing 3-0 success at home to Bournemouth. Cole Palmer scored a penalty for his first goal for Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson also got his name on the scoresheet after coming back from suspension. Fulham beat Sheffield United 2-1 ,leaving them bottom of the table and still without a win this season.
